The 70-year-old Dutchman turned out to have hidden almost three kilos of heroin in his suitcase. The arrest was carried out by customs officials who are involved in matters that have to do with smuggling.

Blue suitcase

K. soon aroused suspicion at customs, on which staff decided with X -ray equipment to investigate his bags, a gray backpack and a blue suitcase. They discovered five heroin packages with a total weight of almost 3 kilos.

The Dutchman was then arrested immediately. The drugs has been seized. The man, who, according to documentation, has also lived and worked in Africa for years, is detained. The investigation is still ongoing.

The arrest follows a series of seizures at Wattay International Airport in the past months. On 29 May, customs officials intercepted 5.8 kilograms of heroin hidden into aluminum -covered blankets packed in two travel bags. The 70-year-old Dutchman is associated with this discovered smuggling.

The incidents show that Wattay International Airport is increasingly being used as a transit point for international drug trafficking, which has led to a much stricter control by the Laotian authorities.
