Shock for cross -country star Victoria Carl and the German Ski Association after a positive doping test: The forbidden means should have been in a cough juice that a Bundeswehr doctor of the Thuringian was prescribed. Carl and the DSV hope that the punishment mild or even completely.
Ski-length Olympic champion Victoria Carl from SC Motor Zella-Mehlis has been tested positively for the forbidden doping agent Clenbuterol. This was announced by the German Ski Association (DSV) on Wednesday (June 25, 2025). The DSV speaks of a “unfortunate individual case” and hopes for “complete acquittal”.
Hustens Juice prescribed by the Bundeswehr doctor
According to the association, after the end of the World Cup season at the military world games on March 26, Carl took a cough juice that she was prescribed by a Bundeswehr doctor and which had included the forbidden funds. In a statement, the Bundeswehr santity service took responsibility for administration. “The medical regulation was medically understandable, but organizationally incorrect. The athlete is not to blame,” said the senior medical officer of the military competitions.
Forbidden Spasmo Mucosolvan instead of allowed Mucosolvan
According to the DSV announcement, Carl suffered from spastic bronchitis during the competitions. When treating the cough, the doctor made a mistake. “Instead of the originally ordered cough mucosolvan (ambroxol), the Bundeswehr pharmacy errors the combination preparation Spasmo Mucosolvan (ambroxol + clenbuterol),” it says. “The treating troop doctor administered the remedy under high time pressure, but failed to point out the doping -relevant ingredient or to make an emergency request for a medical exception.”
Stefan Schwarzbach: “Carl not responsible.”
DSV spokesman Schwarzbach: “Slock neither fair nor relatively”
Carl “specified fully and proactively” the agent in doping control. From the DSV’s point of view, Carl is not to blame. Stefan Schwarzbach, Board of Directors Communication in the DSV, explains: “Victoria Carl is currently confronted with possible consequences, for which she is not responsible. A lock, especially with a view to the Olympic Games, would not be fair or proportionate.”
Carl: “I disclosed everything”
The 29-year-old also commented: “I was sick, had strong coughing fits and took the medication on a medical instruction. I disclosed everything-I was not aware that a forbidden active ingredient is contained. I very much hope that the circumstances will be understood and fairly evaluated,” the Thuringian is quoted.
Carl threatens lock and Olympic-out
The DSV calls for a “differentiated individual case test” and hopes for a “complete acquittal.” The national anti-doping agency (NADA) has already started a procedure. Carl threatens a lock through which she could miss the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2026. In the 2022 winter games, Carl Gold had won the 4×5 kilometer relay in the team sprint together with Katharina Hennig and Silver.
Victoria Carl in action – Will she run cross -country skiing races next year? After the positive doping test, this remains unclear.
The DSV did not provide any information about the current and further time after the positive doping test of Carl.
Clenbuterol popular with bodybuilders
Clenbuterol is a drug that is used not only in the treatment of respiratory diseases, but also in the calf mast and as a doping agent. The means is particularly popular in bodybuilding because it helps to burn body fat faster. Again and again the remedy was detected by competitive athletes, for example with athlete Katrin Krabbe or the cyclists Alberto Contador and Frank Vandenbroucke.
JOHAUG case: lock in a similar case
It is still unclear whether Carl will be around in Italy for a doping lock half a year before the 2026 Olympic Games in 2026. A similar case of an apparently incorrectly administered medication had to serve a 18-month lock. The then 28-year-old Norwegian was closed in 2016 after an androgenic steroid was detected.
Therese Johaug (left) was blocked for 18 months in 2016 and missed the 2018 Olympics.
According to Johaug’s information, this remedy was in a lipstick that it used to treat a sunburn. The multiple Olympic champion had received the cream from her doctor. The doctor took responsibility. Johaug was nevertheless closed.
