The crash happened around half past three in the second corner of the circuit, the Gerlach bend. At that time, racers in classic cars were racing against each other before 1966.

Immediately wrong in the second corner

After the start in the second corner, the driver got in touch with another racing car, after which his car hit the head and ended up upside down in the gravel bin. The medical staff of the circuit was then quickly on site with the driver, says Jeroen van Iersel of Circuit Zandvoort.

The driver did not come out of consciousness and quickly lit his thumb. Because his helmet was damaged by the blow, he was taken to the hospital for a check -up. “This is actually a standard procedure,” Van Iersel explains. It is not known how the driver is doing now.

On images of the crash you can see that the damage to the classic racing car is great. One of the tires has been driven off the rim and another wheel is completely skewed. Whether the car is a total loss is not clear.

Despite crash, good atmosphere in the stands

The race was briefly interrupted after the crash and was resumed later. Despite the incident, the atmosphere in the stands remained pleasant. Among the spectators were many young racing enthusiasts who enjoyed the historic motorsport event.
