As part of the program Germany Today On June 18, 2025, a delegation of North American university representatives attended the Technical University of Lübeck. The format was from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Located and are aimed at managers from universities, research institutes and educational institutions in the USA and Canada. The aim is to strengthen transatlantic collaborations and give practical insights into the German university and research system.
Encounter and exchange
The group was welcomed by the President of TH Lübeck, Dr. Muriel Helbig, who, as Vice President of the DAAD, himself for the promotion of international university partnerships. Together with Dagmar Diehl, head of the International Office, she presented the profile and international orientation of TH Lübeck.
In the evening, Helbig invited the guests to their house for a personal reception. In an informal atmosphere there was the opportunity to deepen conversations, exchange ideas and make new contacts. We have inspired ourselves and exchanged with a lot of curiosity – about the special features of a university for applied sciences, about fascinating research on by -products of (yes, really!) Marzipan production and about regional cooperation and knowledge transfer. There are so many valuable opportunities to learn from each other and to break new ground together – for our universities, science and our society as a whole. I am very much looking forward to future students and personnel exchanges, research cooperations and the further dialogue
says Helbig.
Interdisciplinary research at the Center for Industrial Biotechnology
A special program item was visiting the Center for industrial biotechnology (CIB). Here the participating gained insights into application -related research projects that combine the areas of chemistry, biology and engineering. Three selected projects showed the range and practical relevance of the work at the CIB:
- The Maakomal project examines microbiological, natural processes for cleaning fat, oil and dirt deposits in sewer systems.
- In the Lübeckr residues project, biogenic by -products of regional industry are mapped and examined for their reusability in the sense of the circular economy.
- The focus group nutrition and bioeconomy develops interdisciplinary solutions at the interface of bioeconomy, nutritional medicine and personalized care.
Digital campus and historic old town
A tour of the campus and through the university district gave further insights into the regional university environment. A visit to the Lübeck learning location of the learning location of the Lübeck of the Lübeck was particularly impressive Digital Learning Campus (DLC)which serves as a modern platform for digital learning and regional cooperation in the transitional house. The DLC combines a digital learning and collaboration platform with physically networked learning locations at university locations throughout Schleswig-Holstein. It promotes future skills, interdisciplinary networks and innovations for economy and society-funded by the EU and the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
