The police arrested activist Jan Huzen from Nieuw-Weerdinge after trying to force the police to stricter border controls. He himself held border controls with a group of people on his own. The checks were carried out earlier this month at the border crossings at Ter Apel and Sellingen.
Huzen belonged to a group of ‘delivered citizens’ that posted in the evening at the Dutch-German border. Huzen is being heard about his role today. On his Facebook page, Huzen set an ultimatum to the police, which ends at 4 p.m. this afternoon. If the police do not go into the ultimatum, there would be ’20 times as many civilians’. He was then arrested.
The local triangle (mayor, the public prosecutor and police) strongly speaks out against border controls by citizens. “We see that there is dissatisfaction with asylum policy from society. Groups have emerged that want to take the law into their own hands and control vehicles and people at the border. That is unacceptable,” they say through a statement. “Border surveillance is a task of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee not from individual citizens. That is why we act against this. There is no room for self -direction.”
Border controls are a task of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar). Huzen was communicated this and was told that he had to stop these activities. “Citizens are not allowed to take this role to themselves,” the police emphasize.
It is not the first time that Huzen has come into contact with the police and the judiciary. For example, he was convicted of defamation and incitement last year after working on Facebook followers to bring the children who have been placed out of the home by the allowance affair to their parents. Huzen has therefore called on the children to withdraw from the legal authority imposed by the court.
In 2021, Huzen was also fined 500 euros imposed for dangerous driving behavior during a demotour on the A28.
