Lando Norris caused a lot of sensation at the Grand Prix of Canada. Then a lot pounded on the British.
A blatant driving mistake by Lando Norris brought the McLaren team to ARGE on the last Formula 1 weekend in Canada. Norris was banged into the rear of his teammate and leader Oscar Piatri shortly before the end of the race at high speed and had thus risked the failure of both McLaren. This incident is still being discussed days after.
Ralf Schumacher has a clear opinion. The ex-formula 1 driver and current Sky expert in the “Backstage pit lane” podcast: “I think it is now internally set that Piatri is the man the team will concentrate on World Cup. Lando shows too many weaknesses and makes too many mistakes.”
And further: “This senselessly drive in at the back of Canada near Oscar. He apologized and shows what he is for a great person. But it uses nothing, because great people rarely win titles.” What Norris needs now is calm. “He doesn’t need advice from the outside. The more the media get from the outside, the more it does with him,” says Schumacher.
For Schumacher, the problems of Norris are in the mental area: “This is now the low point because he has lost a bit of the nerve. The only problem is in Lando’s head.” It is not the first time that the Briton allowed itself an evil mistake this season. In Canada, he had already clashed in qualification. Ex-world champion Nico Rosberg: “The mistakes keep going with him, unfortunately.
However, the traditional British team cannot risk another incident of this kind as in Canada, because McLaren lost many points on a generally surprisingly weak weekend. Mercedes driver George Russell, undisclosed, won the victory in front of world champion Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli in the second silver arrow made it onto the podium. With twelve points, Piatri only operated fourth in the end.
