After the confirmation of the Court about Cristina Kirchner’s conviction, many put the eye in what happens with the possible corruption cases of other political leaders. And there was a surprise: the incipient investigation against Javier Milei for the cause $ Libra will not compromise the president, at least according to what the Anti -Corruption Office (OA) established. Its headline, Alejandro Melik, considered that he did not violate the Public Ethics Law because the president used his Twitter account as “an act of individual or private communication.” Unusual.

Melik did not value that, as president, Milei could have influenced investors who bet on that cryptocurrency that quickly became a scam. “This post, not connected with administrative acts, must be interpreted as an act of individual or private communication that has not generated an official address of public policies of any nature,” explained the head of the OA.
Milei already knew that the investigation was not going to run better luck. Therefore, in February, after the emergence of the scandal, the president hurried to say in an interview: “That the Anti -Corruption Office investigates me. And to all those involved.”

Background.

It is not the first time that the head of the OA looks for the side before a controversy in the government. Despite the request of the Civic Coalition, Milei never made accountability about the financing of his presidential campaign. “Melik has to step aside,” asked Buenos Aires legislator Hernán Reyes last year. And he completed: “It is not up to the control role and leaves a very large vacuum.”
Melik not only turns a blind eye with the president’s controversies, but also with the rest of the officials. It is not asking for explanations when it was revealed that the head of the DGI, Andrés Edgardo Vázquez, the man who had to fight against tax evasion, bought three departments in Miami for 2 million dollars and did not declare them.
In one of the few interviews he gave since he is an official, Melik said: “I intend that the fight against corruption is a state policy.” A year and a half of the beginning of his management, his work seems to go against what he wanted.
