Only Canada promises Ukraine on G7 concrete help
The countries of the G7 have not succeeded in formulating a common position on Ukraine. Only Canada admitted support worth 1.47 billion dollars (around 1.27 billion euros) and announced new financial sanctions against Russia. The United Kingdom also promised support, but did not announce any details.
The United States blocked a “strong explanation” about the war in Ukraine in the intended final text of the G7 summit in Canada, according to anonymous stakeholders. Washington would like to prevent such a hard tone from making future negotiations with Moscow more difficult.
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenski called on the G7 leaders to continue to put pressure on US President Donald Trump, hoping that he will be able to move Russian President Vladimir Putin into a truce.
Trump left the G7 summit prematurely on Monday evening for the conflict between Israel and Iran. As a result, he missed a planned encounter with Zensky, among others.
