Heiner Backhaus is the new coach of the second division soccer team Eintracht Braunschweig. The 43-year-old comes from the third division club Alemannia Aachen and, according to Eintracht, has signed a two-year contract.

Previously, the Backhaus contract with Alemannia, which ran by 2027, had to be dissolved.

The table-16. The expired second division season had separated from his previous coach Daniel Schering shortly before the two relegation games against 1. FC Saarbrücken. Its assistant Mark Pfitzner jumped in as an interim solution for two games. He will now work as an assistant coach of Backhaus.

Backhaus played for Rot-Weiß Essen, Hannover 96 and the 1st FC Union Berlin before working as a football professional in four different countries.

As a trainer, he worked for the BSV Rehden, Rot-Weiß Koblenz and the BFC Dynamo in Berlin before led back to the 3rd division to the former Bundesliga club Alemannia Aachen in 2024.
