That is what the public prosecutor said on Tuesday during the first introductory session in the criminal case against Koert H. (57), Mark V. (31) and Ricky N. (42) in the court in Arnhem. They are founded by the Public Prosecution Service suspected fire in a roll container with paper and cardboard in the narrow Varkensstraat. The fire skipped at lightning speed to Café Solow, and then to the other buildings. Ten buildings with several homes and companies were destroyed.

On camera images and audio recordings you can see and hear how the three men walk through the Varkensstraat at night. “Hey, let’s set that thing on fire,” H. would have said. Ricky N.: “Yes, let’s do that, I like that.”

Then, according to the officer, the men disappear 38 seconds from view. The fire would have been founded in that half minute. In the Arnhem court, the suspects denied any involvement. The officer was not impressed. According to her, a conversation has been eavesdropped on the bus with which the suspects were brought to court: “We keep lying.”

Koen H. is a notorious nuisance. He had the doubtful honor to be the first Dutchman to be put out of his owner -occupied home due to causing nuisance. During the session on Tuesday he said he hoped that his provisional detention will be terminated and that he can return to his house. Whether that is possible is highly the question. There is a seizure on the house to be able to pay any claim for damages

Assets lost
Several residents have lost all their belongings. A woman who was in court with her lawyer Petra Breukink barely managed to leave her house in time. She has been adopted and only had a few possessions from her biological parents. They have now gone up in flames.
