Get an ice cream or a cooling drink, it is possible again if you visit the Gasselterveld swimming pools or the Nije Hemelriek this summer. Today an old acquaintance of Staatsbosbeheer has opened her pop up-kiosk.

On the edge of the beach and the forest there is a sea container from which catering entrepreneur Siska Kanninga provides the people with a drink and a drink. “We are really looking forward to it. When the registration opened, I immediately thought I have to be there,” she says. “It is such a beautiful place and I saw a few years ago that it really needs it.”

In the swimming seasons of 2022 and 2023 she also sold food and drink from her sea container with a terrace. But after a lawsuit between Staatsbosbeheer and the then operator of the Pavilion ‘t Nije Hemelriek burned down last year, the Kiosk van Kanninga was not allowed to return to the recreational area. After a new tender, she can get back to work.

“We are very happy with it,” says forester of Staatsbosbeheer Linde Veldhoen. “It feels like a kind of new beginning. A lot has happened, also nasty things, but we are now going to look ahead.” According to Veldhoen, it must be the prelude to something permanent.

And with thirty degrees approaching, the timing could not be better. “We are ready for it, come on,” concludes Kanninga.
