Less shelter available for Ukrainians than previously thought

Municipalities have so far created fewer places for Ukrainian refugees than was thought last week. There are about 20,000 of them, the Ministry of Justice and Security said on Saturday. Thursday was still assumed to be 23,000.

According to a spokesperson, the system in which the numbers are kept has been redesigned, which has led to “a more realistic picture”.

The number of places seems to be more than sufficient for the Ukrainians who have asked for help in the Netherlands. More than 10,000 people have been received until Saturday, the spokesman said.

It has been agreed that municipalities will have 25,000 places available on Monday. The ministry could not say on Saturday whether that target is still in sight.
