Last night, De Wijk received 91 asylum seekers for whom there was no room at the registration center in Ter Apel. It was the last night that De Slenken sports hall was available for nighttime emergency care.

From tonight, the De Börkerkoel sports hall in Westerbork will serve as a sleeping place for a week for asylum seekers who cannot go to Ter Apel. After De Wolden, Borger-Odoorn, Aa en Hunze and Noordenveld, Midden-Drenthe is the fifth Drenthe municipality to help ensure that asylum seekers do not have to spend the night outside.

It has also been quite busy at the emergency shelter in De Wijk in recent days. From Thursday to Friday, 61 asylum seekers slept, one night later all 106 beds were occupied, from Saturday to Sunday 92 asylum seekers slept and that was one less last night.
