João Palhinha commented on FC Bayern after the National League semi-final in Munich. He does not rule out a farewell for the first time.

Did João Palhinha indicate a possible farewell to FC Bayern? With his statements after the 2-1 victory with Portugal in the semi-finals of the Nations League in Munich, the Portuguese at least attracted attention. When asked whether his future was in Munich, he said: “We’ll see that. I have three years of contract. I want to play for this club.” And further:

“I have to discuss this with the trainer and the sports directors whether I get my possibilities. I really hope that. If not, we will find the best solution. I am always ready to fight.” The 50 million-euro newcomer from last summer for the first time indicated that a possible farewell seems to be an option after only one year with the record champions.

The defensive midfielder emphasized: “My dream is to be successful here. I know how hard it was to sign this club. Nothing in my life was easy.”

This also applies to the past season, in which Palhinha could not prevail and often only sitting on the substitute bench. Palhinha had certainly imagined it very differently. Ex-coach Thomas Tuchel absolutely wanted to hire the duel-safe and ball-proof sixer from FC Fulham as “Holding Six”. His successor Vincent Kompany then had little use for him.

“I have no reason to be upset,” he said. “I won a title with FC Bayern. I hope that was just the first of many.” Finally, he said: “Let’s see the rest and discuss with those responsible what the best thing is for me. I will always fight.”
