Since the death of foo fighter drummer Taylor Hawkins, the song “Aurora” has repeatedly been referred to as its favorite-especially because front man Dave Grahl regularly dedicated this song on the tour after Taylor’s death. But now his son Shane Hawkins ensures a surprising clarification: his father’s true favorite song for playing was not “Aurora”, but “low” from the 2002-album one by one.

Shane made this unveiling in a drum clinic in the “Dead Famous” bar in England. “People say that ‘Aurora’ was his favorite, but that’s a lie,” said 18-year-old drummer via “Rolling Stone” in front of a gathered audience. Shane continues to reveal that his father had “low” preferred – although this was rarely part of the setlists.

Foo fighter “Low”: Too complex for the stage?

Why was the song played so rarely live when it was Taylor’s favorite piece? Shane suspects that the technical difficulty of “low” was the reason for this. “Dave has him [Taylor] Let the song play along, but it’s a damn heavy thing for her, ”says Shane Hawkins via“ Rolling Stone ”.

After his words, Shane put himself on the drums – and put on a massive performance of “low”, some of which in one Tiktok can be seen.

Shane in his father’s footsteps

For many by his moving appearance at the tribute concerts, Shane Hawkins became known for many in honor of his father, where he shared the stage with the Foo Fighters. Since then, the young musician has seemed consistently to continue his father’s path.

In the summer of 2025, the young Hawkins will tour the USA as a drummer with Chevy Metal, the old cover band by Taylor Hawkins. The start is planned in Denver on July 19. On Instagram, the comments on his appearances are consistently positive: “It is great to see how the music community completely took it under its wing. Taylor would be indescribably proud.” Another writes: “He plays with one of his father’s favorite bands. What a moment.”

Is Shane new Foo Fighters drummer?

In addition to his tour with Chevy Metal, the rumors about a possible future at the Foo Fighters do not tear off. After the band surprisingly separated from Josh Freese, Shane Hawkins is considered a possible candidate for the vacant post on drums. However, the band has not yet announced a successor.
