In Flanders last year, 140 hectares of forest was felled without a permit. That is not only more than the 130 hectare the year before, but also three times more than the 45 hectare in 2020. This is evident from figures that Flemish Member Mieke Schauvliege (Groen) has requested from Flemish minister of surroundings Jo Brouns (CD&V). According to Schauvliege, it is about “hallucinatory figures”. She insists on a stricter performance.
