For Norway, a week in the World Cup qualification is down for business. National coach Ståle Solbakken also had another topic in mind these days.
Norway mourns the loss of a young footballer. The only 30 -year -old Kristoffer Trandum Nordlie died in a car accident. Trandum Nordlie was captain of the local team Eidsvold Idrætsforing (Eidsvold IF), a subclass association around 45 minutes north of the capital Oslo.
Coach Ole Anders Arntsen still can hardly believe it. “It is unreal. Many of us still think that Kristoffer is next time we go to the changing room, sit there and make his comments,” quotes him from the Norwegian broadcaster NRK.
It was a big shock for all of us. We lost a good comrade, a close friend and a great teammate, ”said Arntsen.
The late footballer played at Eidsvold Turn, a club that plays in the third highest league in Norway until early 2023. At that time, national coach Ståle Solbakken trained the team in summer for a few units. At a press conference on Tuesday on the occasion of the World Cup qualification against Italy next week, the 57-year-old now commented on the death of Trandum Nordlies: “I had the honor of training Eidsvold Turn a few years ago in the summer. Kristoffer was a striking personality. It rarely occurs that after training you remembered. When I heard that he had come to life.”
Ole Anders Arntsen, coach at Eidsvold IF, was deeply touched by the many condolences from all over the country. “I received news from people outside of our region. Kristoffer was someone who noticed many and was respected by many,” he said.
Arntsen now wants to take an example with his team with the deceased captain: “We have to take the professionalism that Kristoffer had, we have to take with us when we go back to the pitch. He always wanted to win.”
