Saturday against PSG Inzaghi’s team will play with the third shirt, an unpublished for the last act. But there is an explanation
It will be a final never seen, and not only because Saturday’s great challenge in Munich will also be the first official meeting between Inter and PSG. It will be an unpublished because an Inter in yellow, in a Champions League final/Champions Cup, is an absolute novelty. For the seventh final of its history, in fact, Lautaro and companions will wear an unusual dress: not the classic black and blue stripes shirt – it would not have been possible, given that “at home” the French play the first shirt, blue with white and red strip in the center – and not even the second white jacket, but the third shirt. Yellow with black details, inspired by the design of the architecture of Milan and the artists of the city who have gone against the current.

Here, countercurrent, compared to tradition, Inter also went: the Nerazzurri had never opted for a third shirt in a final. There would be an exception, the uniform with black and gray horizontal stripes with which Ronaldo raised the UEFA cup 1997-98 after the 3-0 at Lazio in the final at the Parco dei Principi (house of the … PSG opponent on Saturday evening), but technically that was the first shirt for the cup: Inter used it for all the games in the home in that edition of the tournament.

The players were chosen for the yellow for the Night of the Allianz Arena. A matter of taste, of course, and perhaps also of superstition: the only defeat in this Champions League arrived with the white shirt on him, at the Bayarena of Leverkusen on 10 December last. In yellow, however, two wins out of two: on January 22 in Prague in the Sparta house (1-0 signed Lautaro) and on March 5 in Rotterdam, in the first leg of the round of 16 against Feyenoord (2-0 packaged by Thuram and the usual Lautaro). At the two Champions League successes with the third shirt, another five other in the league are added (the budget is completed with a draw and a defeat). Yann Sommer, in the posts, will dress in orange: with that color, at San Siro, the Swiss showed up miraculous parades in 4-3 to Barcelona who opened the doors of the final to Inter.

And the other finals? The Nerazzurri dominates, with alternate results: the first cup of the champions of the Great Inter in 1964, 3-1 at the Real Madrid of Puskas and Stefano at the Prater of Vienna, and the last Champions League, that of the Triplete 2010 with the brace of Milito at Bayern; But also the defeats against Celtic in ’67, Ajax in ’72 and Manchester City, two years ago in Istanbul. In white, however, Inter played a single final of Champions League/Cup of champions out of 7, winning it: 1-0 at Benfica at San Siro, Joir’s goal. The nostalgics (and maybe even the most superstitious) would perhaps have preferred an encore for Monaco. But do you want to break in the yellow jersey under the French nose?
