The premier class of women will start at Disney+ from the coming season behind the payment barrier. At least one game per game day should be free. But where?

A prominent new addition to the sports right market ensures movement: Disney+ will show live sport in Germany for the first time from the 2025/26 season-and gets in directly with the Champions League of football women. The streaming service secured the Pay TV rights for all of Europe. An encounter on German free TV could still be seen per game day.

This was confirmed by the European Radio Union (EBU) to the German Press Agency. EBU has acquired corresponding rights for the German market, but left open which broadcaster the games will show.

So far, it is only clear: the ARD is not transferred to the Reformed Women’s Champions League live. The broadcaster announced this on request. At ZDF, they did not want to comment on open questions.

The commitment marks a premiere for Disney+. The agreement with the rights holder UC3 runs over five seasons and comprises 75 games per season. So far, it is unclear to what extent Disney+ German comments and moderations will offer – especially in games with German participation such as FC Bayern Munich or VfL Wolfsburg. According to the company, multilingual comments are planned.

So far, the sports broadcaster DAZN has held the global transmission rights. The platform had also offered the games free of charge. With the move to Disney+, this model ends for the time being.
