Obstacle runner Frederik Ruppert is currently in impressive form. At the top -class meeting in Rabat, he showed this with a strong time.

Hardly anyone had expected this performance: Frederik Ruppert caused a surprise at the Diamond League meeting in Rabat. The obstacle runner not only significantly improved his personal best on Sunday evening – he also set a new German record.

The 28-year-old from Aachen only needed 8: 01.49 minutes for the 3000 meter obstacle and was so quickly than any other German athlete before. Damian Kallabis’s previous record from 1999 (8: 09.48 minutes) had existed for more than two decades.

In the strong race, Ruppert only had to give up the Olympic champion of Tokyo and Paris, Soufiane El Bakkali. The Moroccan won the race in 8: 00.70 minutes. Ruppert was the only runner in the field to keep up with El Bakkali – a strong appearance in front of his home audience.

Particularly impressive: Ruppert’s old personal best was almost 15 seconds slower. In Rabat he showed himself in impressive form – just in time for the hot phase of the season.
