The blue lines Since the beginning of May on the streets in the center of Monnickendam. They mark the new parking disc zones that will apply in the entire old city center from 30 June.
Many Monnickendammers, including the volunteers of the Oud Monnickendam Association, find the blue stripes one attack on the historic cityscape. The association submitted an objection to the municipality, but found the response period of six weeks too long. Because in the meantime the paintwork continued, the association went to court on 12 May. She asked for an ‘provisional provision’: an emergency measure to temporarily stop applying the blue lines.
Emergency procedure rejected
But the judge rejected that request on Wednesday. A provisional provision is only allocated if there is “without delay”, and the judge did not see it here. According to the decision, the association can best wait for the outcome of the objection procedure.
In addition, the ruling states that around 80 percent of the blue lines have already been applied. According to the judge, the stopping of the work therefore makes little sense. He also states that if the objection of the association is allocated, the lines can still be removed relatively easily.
Disappointed
Klaas Roos, chairman of the Oud Monnickendam Association, is disappointed that it was not possible to stop the construction of the blue lines. “Evil has happened. Soon they will only have to place some plates and then it will be ready. We are very disappointed in the end result.”
Yet the association does not give up the battle. The notice of objection is still being processed and the members are hopeful looking forward to the hearing. If they are again wrong, they are willing to appeal, says Roos.
