The 1. FC Köln has to answer the coaching question after the successful promotion to the Bundesliga. Midfield engine Eric Martel can well imagine going into the coming season with Friedhelm Funkel.

Funkel had taken over the 1st FC Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga two game days before the end of the season from predecessor Gerhard Struber in second place in the table. The Rhinelanders won among the 71-year-old at the 1st FC Nürnberg (2: 1) and against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (4: 0). The result: the second division championship and the direct return.
Funkel can imagine a whereabouts at 1. FC Köln, as he on Monday opposite RTL/NTV and sport.de revealed.

“I do not yet know exactly what the club wants. We had agreed that we first play the two games – and the last one was only ended yesterday afternoon. I assume that we will sit down in the next few days. Then you have to look: What does the club plan to do with me or with someone? What do I plan to do?
