The Hertha BSC squad for the upcoming 2025/2026 season in the 2nd Bundesliga continues to take shape. As the Berliners officially confirmed on Tuesday, they made it clear a third external newcomer.

Central defender Niklas Kolbe will join the capital club and has signed at Hertha BSC until 2027. The club announced on Tuesday on its club homepage.

“Niklas is fast, strong in duel and has a very good header game due to its size. We are convinced that he will help our team with it and with his strong mentality in the coming season,” the Berlin sports director Benjamin Weber was cited on Tuesday.

Kolbe played for SSV Ulm until the end, which had relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga last Sunday. For the sparrows, he had contested 25 games in the German football sub-house in the past season, standing against Hertha BSC in the field at the end of April.

Kolbe “is very happy about the step”

“I am very happy about the step to such a large club as Hertha BSC. At the beginning of the first training session, I will throw everything in to help the team as well as possible,” promised the 28-year-old when it was announced.

The 1.97 m hunter moved from Stuttgart Kickers to Ulm last summer. There he had played his first season in professional football after only playing in the upper amateur football classes.

After Leon Jensen and Sebastian Grönning, who is free of charge from Karlsruher SC or FC Ingolstadt to the capital, Niklas Kolbe is the third external newcomer to the old lady for the new season. In addition, a number of rental players come back to Hertha, who will initially be part of the professional squad from the start of preparation.
