It is clear which animal is behind the attack on two penguins in Zoo Wildlands. A wild fox appears to have crept in at an unguarded moment. This is apparent from trace research and camera images.

Animal carers found the dead penguins in their stay in Emmen last month. The walking birds appeared to have been caught at night and had contracted biting traces. The animal park pointed to a predator outside the park as a suspected perpetrator.

Those suspicions have been confirmed, reports a spokesperson for Wildlands. “A fox has been responsible for this. We now also know how the animal came in; that has been recorded on camera images and has shown trace research.”

The animal park has taken measures where the fox could enter the park.
