After 16 years as a professional, Manuel Gulde ends his career at the end of the season. This was announced by SC Freiburg on Tuesday, the contract of the 34 -year -old central defender expires and will not be extended. The SCF paid 1.2 million euros for Guldes services in 2016.
The defender played a total of 183 games for the Breisgauer and thus more than for any other club. This is followed by the Karlsruher SC with 71 games, and he was also active for SC Paderborn and TSG Hoffenheim. It reached its highest market value in 2018 with 4 million euros.
Gulde, who was only used once in the regional league Südwest due to back problems this season, said: “I have known it since November and have come to the decision relatively quickly that I will end my career. After the long time, it is enough for me now and I’m looking forward to a new phase of life.” The Mannheim -born added: “It was in the back of the head for a long time that it was no longer so easy to make football more into a profession and passed away.” Therefore the final line after a “wild ride” through professional football.
