After a year break, FC Bayern is back to Germany’s football throne. BVB icon Jürgen Kohler, who once kicked at the record champions, still sees some construction sites in Munich.
The title win of FC Bayern is “deserved” and the team of coach Vincent Kompany is currently “clearly the best team in Germany”, the 1990 world champion wrote in his “Kicker” column. “But in terms of their requirements, they can only be partially satisfied.”
Kohler does not primarily have the Munich rivals in the upper house in mind. “Especially with a view to international competition, the question arises whether the quality in the squad is sufficient to achieve the tackled goals,” he explained instead. “Especially in central defense and on the right defense side, I see a catch -up requirement compared to the top in Europe.”
FC Bayern had celebrated the 34th championship of its club history on Sunday “on the sofa”, since pursuer Bayer Leverkusen did not go beyond a 2-2 at SC Freiburg. The Werkelf had not only outperformed the successful Munich Munich team in the Bundesliga last season, but also won the DFB Cup. In this season, however, the Leverkuseners remain Titellos.
This is Jürgen Kohler’s BVB forecast
This also applies to Kohler’s old love, BVB. After an extremely bumpy season, the trend in Dortmund finally pointed up again.
“After the 0: 2 in Leipzig, Niko Kovac has drawn the right conclusions, the BVB now looks stable and also makes a different impression in terms of fitness and physicality than a few weeks ago. That is why I expect Borussia place 4 in the final spurt,” said Kohler.
For this, however, the recess BVB would have to outperform SC Freiburg. After the draw against Bayer, the Breisgauer, as fourth in the table, have a point ahead of the black and yellow, which in turn play in Leverkusen on Sunday (3:30 p.m.).
