This week, the German Football Association auctions the television rights for the cup competition. The focus is above all the live games on freely received television, the number of which can significantly reduce. A reduction of 40 percent is possible.
In the coming season there will be another 15 games at ARD and ZDF. This is again possible with the new tender for media rights for the four seasons from 2026/27. However, there are other variants.
One of the two other scenarios provides for a significant shortage of the offer on only nine free TV games-six less. All other games then ran exclusively for a payment channel.
Since the 2022/23 season, the two public broadcasters have broadcast 15 games per season. They also show extensive highlight programs. All 63 encounters run on the Pay TV station Sky.
For the first time, TV rights for women’s cup also advertised
For the first time, in addition to the TV rights for the men’s competition in a parallel procedure, those for the Women’s cup forgive. There is only one variant for women that guarantees five games on free TV. The packages of men and women “are not linked,” said DFB director Holger Blask.
