Formula 1 gets another team in 2026. That means: two free cockpits. But one thing seems to be forgiven.

Surprise in Formula 1: As the “Bild” and “RTL/N-TV” unanimously report, Sergio Pérez will be the first driver of the team Cadillac, which will become part of the royalty class of motorsport from the coming season. The Mexican, who last drove for Red Bull for four years and became vice world champion in 2023, is said to have signed months ago, according to the “Bild”.

Pérez has been without a cockpit since the new season, at Red Bull Liam Lawson initially got its place, but was replaced by the Japanese Yuki tsunoda after only two races.

After the degradation of Lawson, the Mexican had commented on the current Red Bull car. “Now you suddenly notice how difficult the car is to drive. Especially last year I couldn’t show what I can do as a driver,” he said in an interview with “Formula1.com”. “When I came to Red Bull, great drivers already had to struggle with it,” said the 35-year-old, who had to take part in public several times not to be able to keep up with Verstappen.

If you become your teammate, you should also be promptly determined, because Cadillac allegedly wants to present his duo at the Miami Grand Prix at the coming weekend. It is quite possible that Cadillac installs a young driver next to the experienced Pérez who can learn alongside the 35-year-old. A candidate is said to be the American Colton Herta, who is traveling in the Indycar Series for the Andretti Global team.

Mick Schumacher, on the other hand, has no chance of a Cadillac cockpit. His current teammate in the long-distance World Cup (WEC), Jules Gounon, had spoken out for him. “I think some things that happened to him were definitely not fair,” said the Frenchman, adding: “Formula 1 is still a shark tank, let’s say, and sometimes it is difficult to understand what exactly happens.” Gounon sees Schumacher as a “potted driver”.
