John Williams should actually give his second Philharmonic Gast game after 2021 in Berlin from June 5th to 7th. Unfortunately, the 93-year-old’s health does not allow this.
All scheduled and long sold -out concerts will take place, but without the film composer.
“With very much regret, John Williams, for acute health reasons and in order not to endanger further recovery, have to cancel the trip to Berlin for the planned concerts in June,” says one Notification of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from Wednesday (April 30).
John Williams: CONCERTS TO THE THE Berlin
His musical companion Stéphane Denève will take over the baton alone for the three appointments. Denève is the music director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, artistic director of the New World Symphony and first guest conductor of the Netherland Radio Philharmonic. In 2022 he also headed the official gala for the 90th birthday of John Williams in the Kennedy Center.
Williams’ program with “Excerpts from film music” has been announced. A look at his setlists of the past concerts promises classics such as the “Imperial March”, “The Rebellion Reborn”, the “Superman Theme” and the “Raiders March”.
Whether John Williams will soon come to Berlin is currently in the stars. The musician has been more traveler since 2020 than before, but most recently you could also see him in a wheelchair. Last year Williams canceled several gigs in Vienna for health reasons.
