Jan Nieboer from 2nd Exloërmond has become known in recent years for his protests against the arrival of windmills in East Drenthe. In May, on appeal, he was sentenced to six months in prison for his involvement in threatening wind turbine builders in the Drenthe Mondon area.

Shortly thereafter, his lawyers announced that he went to the Supreme Court in cassation. According to Nieboer, it is still waiting for a statement. He can wait in freedom.

Since his arrest in 2019, Nieboer has denied all involvement in sending threatening letters. He said he has not been guilty of any criminal behavior.

His involvement in the PVV and local politics was partly inspired by his earlier commitment to the arrival of windmills in the region. “I have always had a warm heart for the PVV, especially because of their support in the fight against the windmill plans here. That is why I want to give something back now.”

Nieboer will not appear on the election list anyway. “I retired this year, I sold the majority of my company and I am still in twelve other boards. If I also took a council seat, it would be half a day task again. I don’t like that,” he explains. “I’m in my place in the support fraction.”
