Israel says it has discovered “unknown” corona variant: “Infected persons show only mild symptoms” Science

“The variant was still unknown and the two cases were discovered after PCR testing at Ben Gurion airport on travelers entering Israel,” the ministry said in a press release. “The infected individuals showed mild symptoms, fever, headaches and muscle aches and did not require any special medical attention.”

The head of the Israeli government’s anti-corona strategy, Salman Zarka, says there are no concerns about serious cases at this stage.

The Hebrew state was one of the first countries to launch a large-scale vaccination campaign in December 2020, thanks to an agreement with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

Israel dropped the corona pass in February and reopened the country to unvaccinated travelers on March 1, for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
