In the early years, the school was only accessible to girls. They were able to follow a course as a kindergarten teacher, teacher or regent. Yet the school was at the forefront of pedagogical insights. A well -equipped gym, individual changing rooms and showers were present early on. It is the oldest remaining gym in Europe and is built according to the concept of the Swedish gymnastics.
Today, Howest in Bruges has completely moved to a new campus next to the station. What will happen with the historic school building in the city center has not yet been decided.
