Hockey coach Olli Jokinen rose to the storm on Thursday when Aftonbladet told the man to leave coaching on the Timrå team.

Jokinen confirms this to Iltalehti.

– The agreement with Timrå has been terminated today. I can confirm that, says the 46-year-old NHL veteran.

“Father and husband”

The reasons for the departure are clear.

– The big reason is that I can be with my family again. I can be a father and a husband. It’s the starting point why I wanted to terminate the contract. Last season was already fourth when I was separated from my family. First I coached three years in Mikkeli and then the season in Sweden, says OJ.

– I was thinking about this solution for a long time. Being separated from a family is not easy. It is by no means a normal situation to be for four years and away from the people they love.

In addition to his wife, Jokinen’s family lives at home with a 14-year-old daughter. The Timrå organization was unable to arrange a place for her daughter in a local international school. That was the reason why the Jokinen family was not involved in Sweden.

– Yes, they were there in the Timrå organization in the first way when I announced that I was leaving. But humanity came in quickly. They understood my situation and had noticed for the rest of the season that someone was weighing on my mind.
