The master still lacks a defense of the title: On Wednesday evening, the Eisbären Berlin won 7-0 at the Cologne Haien. Already on Friday you can crown yourself for the champion.
The Eisbären Berlin are only a win from the title defense: On Wednesday evening, the capitals prevailed 7-0 (2: 0, 2: 0, 3: 0) in the fourth DEL final. In the best-of-Seven series, the team of master coach Serge Aubin is comfortable with 3: 1.
“No matter whether you win 7: 0, 5: 1 or 2: 1 in overtime – it only counts as a victory”
Ice hockey trainer Uwe Krupp worked for both the Eisbären Berlin and the Cologne Haie. In an interview, he analyzes the final series between the two teams and does not yet write down the Rhinelander despite the high defeat in the last game. Eisbears brutally efficient
The Cologne sharks aggressively started the encounter in front of a home backdrop-and played outdoors early after Moritz Müller had to serve the first two-minute penalty after less than a minute. In this wild initial phase, however, the polar bear was unable to make profit from the first power play. Haie-goalie Július Hudáček was able to distinguish himself with the first strong saves and initially saved his team from a deficit.
Until the tenth minute, in which the Berliners were rewarded for their good start. Liam Kirk completed a quick counterattack to 1-0 for the guests and initially brought the heated Cologne hall to silence. The polar bears struck again just when the Cologne became stronger – again with counterattack. Blaine Byron put on Marcel Noebels, who was 2-0 (16th). With this intermediate score, both teams went into the first third break.
Worthy final backdrop: the sold-out Cologne arena on Wednesday evening.
Berlin appearance becomes Demonstration of power
Immediately after the beginning of the second section, Lean Bergmann had a huge chance to achieve this 3-0, but left it unused (22nd). The polar bears showed an outstanding idea in the first few minutes of this third, literally laced up the sharks and deservedly increased to 3: 0. Zach Boychuk, who first included in this series after his lock to the Berlin line-up, completed a remarkable combination with a pass on Manuel, who met by tip-in (27th). The only really top-class chance for the home side left Juhani Tyrväinen, who failed due to polar bear goals Jake Hildebrand. Instead, Byron screwed the score to 4: 0 (39th) in the second third.
Eisbears take the lead in the DEL final series after winning Cologne
After the 5-1 win in the first final game against the Cologne Haie, the Eisbären Berlin also won the second home game of the series. Again it became clear. Also thanks to a new record player.more
First title chance on Friday in front of a home audience
The inclined reader may have noticed that the name Ty Ronning has not yet fallen here. But at the start of the final third, the recordman made sure that this should change. With a “laser beam under the crossbar” as it TV expert Rick Goldmann Ronning scored 5-0 (42nd) in the “Magenta Sport” microphone. It was the 13th playoff game and a total of the 27th DEL game in a row, in which the exceptional attacker scorten.
Even if the Cologne audience cheered on the sharks until the end, the hosts did not even hit an honor. Kirk and Eric Hördler got the 7-0 final score (57th, 60th), the polar bears went off the ice as a well-deserved winner.
In this final series, the Berliners now have all the trump cards in their hands. Another victory is missing for defending the title. Already on Friday evening (7:30 p.m., in the ARD audio stream), the German record champion in the arena at the Ostbahnhof could make his eleventh Del title perfect.
