The top star in Leverkusen is already part of the world class category. But his older sister has also inherited a lot of ball talent.

Florian Wirtz is just 21 years old and is already one of the most sought -after professionals in Europe. After winning the double with Bayer Leverkusen in May of last year, he was also one of the outstanding players in the German team at home in summer.

In the current season, Wirtz continued to draw attention to himself with strong appearances in the Champions League. He scored six goals in nine games, plus 20 goal participations in 27 Bundesliga games. Its market value is currently being estimated at 140 million euros, with which he is the most valuable German professional together with his buddy and congenial partner Jamal Musiala.

But he is not the only one in his family who is blessed with a large portion of ball. Bundesliga football also plays his sister Juliane, almost two years older.

Since 2023, the defender has been under contract with Werder Bremen, where she was immediately elected to the player of the season in a fan survey. Before that, she went through the same stations as her even more famous brother. It all started at Heimatverein Grün-Weiß Braunweiler at the gates of Cologne. During junior times, the change to the big “Effzeh” to the cathedral city (2011) followed, where she made debut in the women’s Bundesliga in February 2018.

In summer 2018, Wirtz joined the first division promoted Bayer Leverkusen, where she scored two goals in 89 league games. So have been Bremen for around a year and a half.

Juliane has already gained international experience. Between the U15 and the U19, it ran for the national teams of the DFB. Their climax: the vice title at the U19 European Championship in Scotland.

What did you help you on the way to the top footballer? The competition with boys. “I often played against and with boys in primary school and with Flori in the club. And they probably saw that I can kick properly. In any case, I didn’t put up with anything,” said Juliane in an interview with the “kicker” at the end of December 2023.

Florian and Juliane have eight other siblings. Five comes from the first marriage of Papa Hans, three from Mama Karin’s first marriage. Although “only” Juliane and Florian made it into professional athletes, but all of the child’s legs were enthusiastic about sports. So Juliane reported in the same interview: “In the past, we always played together, whether in the living room or on the football field – our father partially trained us.”

And what is the relationship with her brother today? “Due to my move to Werder, we are now further away, but we talk to each other very often. It is a familiar relationship,” said Juliane.

With that her younger brother is now in the spotlight and mostly referred to as the “sister of …”, Juliane has no problems: “He is very well known – so it is far human that it is special for many people to have Flori as a brother. But for me he is simply my little brother, which I used to take into account.”

Although she admits: “Nevertheless, there are of course moments when you think: It doesn’t have to be that my brother is becoming the topic again.”

Despite the world career, he continues to be at least as interested in her games as she is in his. “After every game that he saw from me, he wrote to me how he found it,” the 23-year-old recently revealed to the “Stadtmagazin Bremen”.
