“For me personally a total embarrassment”

After just one year in the Premier League, Leicester City has to go back to the second division. The team’s star now breathe breath.
The 0-1 defeat against Liverpool FC last weekend was too much: the relegation of Leicester City was sealed in the Premier League after only one year. The “Foxes” are only 18 points after 33 out of 38 games – and thus in the penultimate place. The saving bank, i.e. 17th place, is a further unhappily 18 points away.
Only last year, Leicester had returned to the Premier League as a master of the second -class championship after relegation in 2023. But in the English Oberhaus, the club from the East Midlands found itself in the lower table from the start after its return from the start. The last competitive game won against Tottenham Hotspur (2-1) at the end of January. Since then it has almost only defeats.
Jamie Vardy was particularly upset about the team’s weak seasonal performance. The striker, who has been hunting goals for Leicester since 2012, drew a relentless conclusion on Instagram – and apologized to the club’s followers.
“At this point I don’t even know what to say,” Vardy started his contribution. Words could not express his anger and grief about the course of the season. “There are no excuses. Together, as a player and as a club, we failed,” said the 38-year-old. That cannot be hidden.
Then the former English international became even clearer: “I’ve been in this club for so long and have experienced so many ups and successes – and this season was just miserable and personally a total embarrassment.” He wrote to the fans: “It hurts and I know that you feel that too.” He is sorry that he and the team have not performed. “And I’m sorry that we end the 2025 season with such a shit show,” Vardy concluded his statement.
Vardy, also captain of the team, had contributed seven goals and three templates in 31 league missions. The top scorer of the 2020 Premier League season had become sensational English champion with Leicester 2016. In 2021, Vardy also won the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield with his longstanding club.
