The 1. FC Köln still has to plan two tracks, but the direct return after the home win against Prussia Münster is closer. Sports Managing Director Christian Keller indicated after the game on Easter Sunday that a player is likely to leave the club in summer.

Christian Keller is already working hard on the personnel planning for the coming season at the 1st FC Köln. The 46-year-old has now blown through that Meiko Sponsel will probably leave the club free of charge in summer.

“I would see the likelihood that it ends,” Keller is quoted in the “Express” personnel. Sponsel celebrated his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 3-1 win of 1. FC Köln against Prussia Münster. The full -back was substituted for Jan Thielmann in added time.

Sponsel actually runs for the second team in the Regionalliga West. This is where the 23-year-old has 22 missions in the current season.

The trained right -back could open a new chapter in his career in summer. His working paper at 1. FC Köln expires.

Sponsel is “a boy who played here for several years in the offspring, who has the heart totally in the right place, which also has quality,” praised Keller.

Cologne’s sports director no longer sees the Wiesbaden native in the regional league. “He is a player who has the 3rd league at least in the tank, maybe even the 2nd league. And he still has to go the step now,” said Keller.

Meanwhile, the 1. FC Köln is facing the German football upper house before jumping back. The league leader of the 2nd Bundesliga has five points ahead of the relegation site, on which 1st FC Magdeburg is currently standing.
