More than 25 years ago, Holger Speckhahn became known as a moderator at MTV and RTL-now the 50-year-old is returning to television.
As a model for well-known brands such as Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani, Holger Speckhahn began his career as early as the mid-1990s. In 1997 the Hamburger took over the moderation of the programs “in Touch” and “Fashion Zone” at the MTV music station before starting RTL with “Top of Pops”. At the beginning of the 2000 bacon tap at Sat.1 still moderated “the island duel” and “everyone against everyone” before he disappeared from the big channels. “I often thought about whether I was to blame myself. However, I always had good odds with my shows. I was just not announced at some point,” said Speckhahn 2015 in a “BZ” interview.
For a long time it was quite quiet around bacon tap. On television, the Hamburger presents ice hockey reporting from the DEL and football in the 3rd league. In addition, Speckhahn founded the production company “Media and Rockets” and has been producing the broadcasts of the Baller League (small field football league by Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski) in Germany and England since 2024.
The now 50-year-old will give his TV comeback in May. Instead of fashion or music, cycling is now the focus of his work. The studied sports scientist will moderate the daily live show “Vélo Club” at Eurosport at this year’s Giro d’Italia (from May 9 to June 1) and look at the highlights of the stages.
“I am very happy to be part of the Eurosport team and to be able to accompany one of the most prestigious bike races in the world with the Giro d’Italia. I have long fascinated cycling-the combination of top sport, tactics and drama is simply unique,” explains Speckhahn.
“Holger quickly convinced us with his enormous passion, specialist knowledge and enthusiasm for our cycling reporting at Eurosport,” says Jochen Gundel, Director Sports at Warner Bros. Discovery in Germany.
SPECKHAHN missed the fame after his end at RTL and Sat.1 more than 20 years ago, as he explained in an interview. With his new job, the moderator can now alleviate this longing a little.
