In the second top game of the week there was the second victory for Füchse Berlin. The championship is getting closer, but the players press on the brakes.

The Foxes Berlin won the top game of the handball Bundesliga and underpin their title ambitions. In front of 9,000 fans in the sold-out Max-Schmeling-Halle, the capitals conquered TSV Hannover-Burgdorf on Easter Sunday with 37:33 (17:15).

This means that the Berliners stay at the top of the table and continue to have the best chances of the first championship title in history. The lead over the second MT Melsungen is now two plus points. The best thrower of the game was Mathias Gidsel with nine goals, closely followed by Mijajlo Marsenić, who hit six times. On the part of the guests, national player Renārs Uščins was successful with eight goals.

Hanover started the game better and was 4-2 early. Then, however, the foxes got on the way, turned the game with a 4-0 run and took the lead for the first time. However, things did not go very well with the league leader. Unusually many technical mistakes and misconceptions in free throws enabled the guests to present again.

But Hanover did not act flawlessly either and left two seven meters unused. So the Berliners stayed in the game with a maximum of two goals (6: 8). An increase in the defense ensured that the foxes used the mistakes of the opponent more effectively-an 8: 2 run brought them back the lead before the break.

After the change of sides, the foxes claimed their leadership, but were initially unable to decide decisively. In this phase, goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev focused on. He kept his team on course with important parades. Five minutes before the end, the Berliners settled 35:29 – the decision.

It was the second win in a top game for the Berliners this week. Already on Wednesday the foxes prevailed against the championship competitor from Kiel. However, none of the players still dares to say a real announcement of the title. “Every game is of course a big step,” said Marsenić, but restricted: “It is still too early. We go from game to game.” But he is certain: “If we play like today, we don’t have to worry.”

World handball players Gidsel have also described the past few days as a perfect week. “First Kiel, that was a big step in the championship and today Hanover was a heavy team to beat,” said Gidsel. With a view to the title, he said: “We are in pole position. We are at the front, we are the favorites, but for me it’s all about the next game.”

Last year the foxes also fought for the championship, but awarded the title in the final phase of the season. However, Gidsel sees a decisive difference: “Last year the problems in the away games were, and I think we showed that we are really good this year. We did an incredible teams,” he says. The club’s mentality has changed. “Now we are a real top club and that doesn’t mean that we will be German champions this year, but that means we have a really good chance,” said Gidsel.
