For Borussia Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy is something like life insurance. Without the striker’s goals, BVB should be much worse. Nevertheless, TV expert Dietmar Hamann would advise the black and yellow to sell Guirassy. Why, the former Bundesliga player has now justified and called another sales candidate.
29 goals and eight templates in 41 games: This is the impressive proof of work by Serhou Guirassy near Borussia Dortmund. Numbers that actually suggest that the BVB should continue to rely on the attacker who has been wearing the black and yellow jersey since last summer. But the former Bundesliga player and today’s TV expert Dietmar Hamann advises those responsible for another procedure.
When he was asked in a talk round on the Pay TV channel “Sky” which player the Borussia was supposed to give, Hamann named Guirassy, of all things, who also scored again in the recent 3-2 victory over Gladbach on Sunday.
“Of course, the BVB has to see who has a market value. Because you will have to generate revenues. And in my view, Serhou Guirassy would be the first where I would see whether a 70 or 80 million euros,” said Hamann with a view to the summer transfer window and added: “He is 29 years old, had a good year.”
However, BVB should not worry that the sporting loss could be too big. This was also not the case with the departures of the Wonderer Erling Haaland (summer 2022) and the highly talented midfielder Jude Bellingham (summer 2023).
Hamann: It didn’t work at BVB this season
“A Haaland went, and after that they were first on the 33rd matchday,” Hamann alluded to 2022/23 when the Dortmund played the championship (on the very last match day).
“A Bellingham went, everyone thought, everything breaks down now, and they were in the Champions League final,” said Hamann with a focus on 2023/24, where BVB (first) was defeated in the royal class final (against Real Madrid).
“That means the whole thing has to fit. And a Gitten and Guirassy, that would be the first where I would see that I would do it with it,” said the TV expert in Youngster Jamie Gitten, a second candidate.
Gitten could rinse up to 50 million euros into the coffers, the offensive man is currently to be dissatisfied.
When the “Sky” valley round at Hamann rejoiced that Guirassy was too good and important, the ex-Bundesliga star underpinned his words.
“What was with Haaland? He went and you actually have to become a master …! You always have to see that the whole thing works. And that was not the case over long stretches in 2024/25,” he said, adding: “And I don’t blame Guirassy at all. He scored the goals, even in the Champions League.”
On the other hand, you have to see the financial side: “Who can you sell?! If I have such a player who is at that age – and an English team will come with an offer of over 80 million – then I would not think twice,” said Hamann’s clear requirement.
