Former Bundesliga coach Werner Lorant had suffered from a serious illness in recent years. His sayings will survive his death.

He once said about dealing with his team: “What should I talk to the players, I’m not a pastor” and “The players may have a problem with me, but I don’t with them.” As early as 1998, he amused with his statements on the microphone: When asked whether the hits of the shortly before Bernd Hobsch and Abderrahim Ouakili († 53) were accidental in the 2-0 victory against Gladbach, he replied: “We only buy accident.”
At 1860 there was a mobile phone ban, so Lorant said: “If the cell phone rings, you can get out of the bus – and we continue. We have a cell phone and can call a taxi.” Also his work as a trainer remains unique, because: “Everyone can have their opinion, but only mine counts.”
