The format is more likely to smile today, but the list of music appearances collected over the decades in “Wetten, dass ..?” Reads like the best -occupied benefit concert of the pop world. A small excerpt? Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Eartha Kitt, Tina Turner, Madonna, Julian Lennon, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Janet Jackson, Spice Girls, Robbie Williams, Britney Spears … and there is not even David Hasselhoff mentioned! The family experience of a cross-generational Saturday evening show is nevertheless: Dead and Gone. And yet we want a look at the topic of music with “Wetten dass …?” throw. Let’s go!
1. Michael Jackson, 1st part
52 percent market share and almost 18 million viewers – the show in November 1995 performs above average: Michael Jackson is on site in Duisburg – just like countless people without cards for the show. For this, a kind of “public viewing” must be built up in front of the hall, long before this word and the associated event practice in Germany exist. Michael Jackson sings the “Earth Song” with an elaborate, physical show.
Director Alexander Arnz later remembers the professionalism of the superstar: “We needed a lot of rehearsal time for him”, and adds: “Because he just took her …”
Bet that..?
2. Michael Jackson, 2nd part
In 1999, Michael Jackson’s fame and view are clearly scratched. Allegations of abuse are an issue, just like alleged disfigurements through cosmetic surgery. Nevertheless, the stumbling “King of Pop” is again invited to “Wetten dass …?” a. That he does not want to perform, but only want to apply two concerts (one of them in Korea)? Gift! The appearance gets to the grotesque. Jackson can be illuminated with glowing headlights, so that you cannot see face contours, screeching fans make the conversation with Gottschalk, at the end a record company CEO tells what this concert project is-after a few minutes the (in the truest sense) spook is over again.
3. Thomas Gottschalk and the concerned fathers
Since “bet dass …?” Stage for moderator Thomas Gottschalk, it is not surprising that he even played music on the show, sorry. His “whatever happened to rock’n’roll” influences the legendary rhyme: “Say, is the guy plemplem? / No, dad, that’s eminem”. The bright rock trash acts under the name Thomas Gottschalk and the concerned fathers. The ultimate soundtrack for the saying: “Ok Boomer!”
4. Helge Schneider
That Helge Schneider found the way into the broad mainstream with all corners and mannerisms … also made his appearance on “Wetten dass ..?” 1994 at.
There were irritation on both sides: the audience was amazed at the strikingly strange artist, the artist, on the other hand, about how much his miniature “Katzeklo” was suitable for clapping.
5. Sarah Connor
The performance of “From Sarah with Love” by Sarah Connor at “Wetten dass …?” In 2002, tabloids and church representatives employed far beyond Saturday evening. (Geiberder) Reason: The wide section of the top of the singer and the fact that her skirt appeared transparently in the spotlight.
6. Tim Toupet, Jürgen Drews and Mickie Krause
Level and acceptance had a hard time in the “Wetten dass …?” Eara of Markus Lanz. This was clearly reflected in the music selection. Tim Toupet, Jürgen Drews and Mickie Krause sing together in 2013. But the Ballermann-Move does not save the program either. Only 6.7 million people wanted to see this.
7. The music betting
Music often also found itself on bets: Songs, for example, recognize the rash on the volume indicator, as there was as well as a candidate who could name songs after someone twitched his shoulders rhythmically. Don’t try this at home! Although … maybe that.
PS: The title music of “Wetten dass …?” By the way, comes from a piece called “El Gato” – it was composed in 1981 by Harold Faltermeyer (which was known, among other things, with the song “Axel F”).
