30 years ago, on April 13, 1995, Andreas Möller from Borussia Dortmund started the legendary “protective swallow”.
Against Karlsruher SC, the battered penalty brought the urgently needed turn, for the BVB star a lock and 10,000 D-Mark punishment.
Dortmund, Westfalenstadion, Thursday evening: In a hotly contested Bundesliga game in front of a good 43,000 spectators, Borussia Dortmund is 0: 1 against Karlsruher SC back until well into the second half.
The black and yellow must win on this 26th matchday so as not to lose the lead to SV Werder Bremen. Already in the previous week, BVB only won a 0-0 in the Ruhrpottderby against FC Schalke 04.
Another loss of points could be dissuaded from the way to the first championship after 32 years-because national players and playmaker Andreas Möller reaches the last remedy: After a pass from Karl-Heinz Riedle on the right side, Möller in the sixteen picks up without contact with opponent Dirk Schuster before taking the ball and remains on the ground. Schiri Günther Habermann promptly falls in this acting insert and whistles a penalty in front of the Dortmund south grandstand. The protective swallow is born!
Michael Zorc equalizes with 911, ten minutes later Matthias Sammer even hits the 2-1 final score shortly before the end. Dortmund stays the leader and won the championship shell two months later with one point lead.

The contribution of Andreas Möller, who is now for the 28th time, is just as legendary as their aftermath in the hours and days afterwards, in which Möller himself, guest coach Winfried Schäfer and the DFB sports court played the leading roles.
Möller is and remains the only player in the Bundesliga who was subsequently closed due to a swallow. The loss of image followed him for years.
Andy Möller has always been the inventor of the inglorious protective swallow. His original sound after the game: “That was a protective swallow. I thought that Dirk Schuster would blow me fully”.

In a similarly questionable manner, other famous footballers made a name for themselves with creative drama performances. An overview:
Werner – The Möller -Erbe
A much discussed case is Timo Werner’s swallow from the 2015/2016 season. The offensive man of RB Leipzig penetrates the penalty area of FC Schalke 04 a few seconds after the game started – without being touched by goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann or defender Naldo. Schiri Bastian Dankert gives penalty that transforms “fouled” himself.
After that, an incredible fan and media rage collides on the then 21-year-old. Fährmann summarizes Werner’s flight insert with four concise words: “That is pissed off.”
The giant swallow from the Bosphorus
In the playoffs for the 2012 European Championship, Croatia in the person of Ivica Olić made the 1-0 at Turkey after two minutes. Almost 20 minutes later, the long -time Bundesliga player Hamit Altintop wants to give the game the turn in an almost outrageous way. He removes a good two meters from his opponent and demands a penalty. Actually a miracle that Referee Dr. Felix Brych No yellow card pulls out for this flight insert.
The very, very deep face hit
Turkey again, this time in the role of the cheated. In the preliminary round game of the 2002 World Cup, the Turks were just 1: 2 against Brazil in the back after a penalty in the 86th minute. In the 90th minute, 911 goal scorer Rivaldo wants to perform a corner kick, but takes a long time. Hakan ünsal becomes too colorful and shoots the ball towards the Brazilian.
The play equipment hits the Barcelona striker on the leg, but it bends on the floor in a very theatrical way and keeps his face. Schiri Kim falls in and puts Ünsal off the pitch, Rivaldo is subsequently given a fine for his unsports out.
The head swallow
In December 2005, Norbert Meier was released as a coach at the relegation -threatened MSV Duisburg. So far so good. However, the reason for the outline was a unique incident in Bundesliga history. Meier got involved in the final phase of the game against direct competitor 1. FC Köln with midfielder Albert Streit.
After a tête-à-tête and verbal argument, Meier started to head, immediately went to the ground himself. After his release from the MSV, Meier received three months ban on a job and a fine of 12,500 euros. At the end of the season, the MSV Duisburg was the last as the last from the Bundesliga.
The “Selfie-Watschn”
The king of the audacity is undoubtedly the young Chilean Bryan Carrasco. In the expectation of a throw-in, he grabs the arm of his counter player Edson Montano as part of a U20 game between Ecuador and Chile in June 2011 and then hits his own face. A crazy process, especially after Carrasco then sinks to the ground. Fortunately, the referee did not fell into it completely. He whistled free kick for Chile, but did not pull out a card.
