The large forest fire in the De Loonse and Drunense Duinen National Park is under control on Sunday morning, but a signal ‘Brand Meester’ has not yet been given. The extinguishing will ‘will take a large part of the afternoon all morning anyway’, the safety region reports.
Due to the wind and the rainfall last night, the fierceness of the fire was taken. “But the land is still very hot,” adds a spokesperson for the Security Region. “So we really have to continue extinguishing.”
The advice also remains on Sunday to stay away from the area and to close windows and doors with smoke or odor nuisance.
140 care providers
Around 140 care providers were fighting the fire on Saturday evening. 96 firefighters attacked the sea of flames in the field. According to the spokesperson, how many firefighters are still working on the fire at the moment. Emergency services such as the police were able to go home at some point, but the firefighters of different units stayed in the area for the rest of the night.
Forest fire
The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon around a quarter past three. There was an area of five hundred by five hundred meters on Saturday. The sea of flames caused enormous damage in the forest area.
Around nine o’clock in the evening the wind went to Drunen and the expectation was that the wind would decrease in strength, because the wind would then blow over a meadow.
Around five o’clock an NL-Alert was sent with the call to leave the forest area. The NL-Alert was sent to guarantee the safety of recreationists in the area.
People were asked to leave the forest area immediately. The clouds of the fire moved towards Waalwijk and could be seen in the wider area.
