We last reported about Billy Joel (July 26, 2024):
Billy Joel has been playing a gig in Madison Square Garden in New York every month for ten years. This should end now, because the “Piano Man” gave its 150th and last concert in the location on Tuesday (July 25). He also surprised the sold-out arena with a guest appearance from the Guns-N ‘-Roses singer Axl Rose.
From Wings add AC/DC
Billy Joel announced in the middle of his set Axl Rose, who was welcomed by the audience with a great cheers. After a brief hug, the two living music legends celebrated a cover version of Wings’ “Live and Let Die”. The choice of the song was not arbitrary, Guns n ‘Roses are known to play the piece regularly. This was also noticeable to Axl Rose’s energetic appearance. In a black glitter suit and with sunglasses, the singer started calmly before he pulled the microphone out of the tripod, took his glasses and really heated up to the audience.
This was followed by a cover version of AC/DCS “Highway to Hell”. Axl Rose is also familiar with this song, because the singer performed as a front man of AC/DC in 2016 after Brian Johnson could no longer be part of the band due to hearing problems.
Finally, Rose initially left the stage and returned for the last song of the encore. The 62-year-old took over the vocal part for Billy Joels Hit “You May Be Right” from the album “Glass Houses” from 1980.
Finally, Joel brought his two younger daughters onto the stage to bow and end his Residency in Madison Square Garden.
Jimmy Fallon distinguishes Billy Joel
Shortly before the end of the concert, late night star Jimmy Fallon entered the stage again. He presented Billy Joel a blue banner with the inscription “Billy Joel 150: Most Lifetime Performance by Any Artist” (translated “Billy Joel 150: Most of an artist’s appearances in his life”). The banner should honor Joel’s record -breaking concert number in the Madison Square Garden and will be attached to the rafters of the arena.
Although it was Billy Joel’s last gig in the Madison Square Garden, the musician will play six concerts from August. Most stops makes Joel in North America. He will come to Europe for just a show on August 9 – to Great Britain. However, the tickets for his appearance are already completely sold out.
