VfL Wolfsburg is in crisis – and has conceded three goals against Leipzig. Afterwards captain Maximilian Arnold became unfriendly.
The situation at VfL Wolfsburg continues to come to a head. Against RB Leipzig, the Lower Saxony received a 2-3 defeat on Friday evening-the fourth in a row. How tense the atmosphere at the Bundesliga club is current was also shown in the interview between a reporter by DAZN and captain Maximilian Arnold after the game.
Arnold was thin -skinned – and reacted angrily to a question by Mario Rieker in an interview. “Have you ever played football?” Asked Arnold the journalist – apparently annoyed by his demand to defend the goal of Xavi Simons to 0: 2. When Rieker affirmed this, the VfL professional pushed right after: “How high?”
Rieker did not let it get out of it and replied: “Well, we don’t have to lead the debate. That’s why I do my job and you, but that’s why I can still ask the question.”
In terms of content, Arnold finally responded to the question. The midfielder said: “We can defend a lot, of course. But you can’t defend everything.” Of course, the team at the goals would have “had to throw up even more”. Leipzig’s goal scorer Xavi Simons, however, is a “very, very good player,” emphasized Arnold – and asked: “Tell me one who permanently defends everything.”
With the renewed setback, VfL Wolfsburg slipped in the table in twelve. The prospect of participation in the European Cup is still waning.
