The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) has removed the explosives and detonated them in the Western Port area, a police spokesman said.
The police were alerted by a passerby who saw that the windows of the car in question were open, while it was raining and there was no one else, a spokesman said. When officers arrived at the car, they saw suspicious packages inside.
It is not yet clear who owns the car. The investigation is ongoing.
