The Free Agency in the NFL is basically behind us, but there are still a few larger names. One of them is Safety Justin Simmons, who is still waiting for the right opportunity.
Simmons (31) was one of the last players last year who had signed a new contract for the upcoming season. After eight years at the Denver Broncos, the Safety only signed a one -year contract with the Atlanta Falcons in August during the training camp. This should be possible this year as faster.
“This is always the goal,” said Simmons on the show “Up & Adams” with reference to a contract signature at a team before the start of this year’s camp in July.
“I think yes, there are advantages and disadvantages at the training camp. The disadvantages are to go through, the physical breakdown, the whole thing around it, especially when you get older. But many advantages are the structure of this relationship, especially if you are not in the team and not necessarily played with many of these boys. I think it would have helped me go a little earlier. But it was simply not possible. Go to a team that will win.
Unfortunate year for Simmons in Atlanta
Last season at the Falcons, Simmons had a rather unfortunate year overall, even if it ended up with two interceptions and four pass breakups. However, he also allowed five touchdowns as the next defender. In addition, an enemy Passer Rating of 105.1 was the next defender – the highest value for him since 2018 when it was 107.0.
Meanwhile, he has ticked off a further employment in Atlanta: “At the end of the day, I think a lot from Head Coach Raheem Morris, General Manager Terry Fontenot and Owner Arthur Blank, and I think the organization is first class,” said Simmons. “I really think they will be great. It was a one -year thing. They also like their younger players. Sometimes things don’t work and you don’t work in different directions. I don’t know if the door is absolutely closed, but we will see.”
What ultimately speaks of SimfL in the NFL for another year is the fact that the safety class in this year’s draft is not particularly deep.
