The Görtz flagship on Hamburger Spitalerstrasse closes.
Locations of the shoe branchist in Hamburg have been the subject of reports since December. Now it is clear that there is no future for the Spitlerstrasse location and other shops. This was confirmed by Gideon Böhm, insolvency administrator of Görtz Retail GmbH from the Münzel & Böhm law firm, to Fashionunited. Various media, including the Schuhkurier specialist magazine, had previously reported.
No prospective customer would have reported in the investor process for taking over the total area of the Görtz branch in Spitlerstrasse, explained Böhm. With more than 5,000 square meters, the property is around six times larger on six floors compared to the other Görtz branches.
“We do not know the landlord’s future plans for the property and want to enable her to start our own planning,” said the insolvency administrator. “Together with the landlord, we have therefore found a mutual solution and will be handed over the entire area to it at the end of April.”
The new lifestyle concept of Görtz was only rolled out at the location last May. In addition to shoes, clothing should also make up 40 percent of the range there. The clearance sale for the shop has now started before it closes at the end of the month. 65 employees are affected.
In addition to this location, two other shops, including a second shop in Hamburg, also close. The area in the Alstertal shopping center in Hamburg was handed over to the landlord at the beginning of the month. The closure of a branch in Darmstadt then follows in the middle of the month.
The background to the closures is the new bankruptcy of the shoe branchist. Görtz Retail GmbH applied for a temporary bankruptcy proceedings from the district court in Hamburg in January.
The investor process, which is established with the order of the preliminary insolvency administration, will continue to promote numerous expressions of interests, according to the insolvency administrator. Expressions of interest to take over branches are passed on directly to the renters of the respective locations. Görtz Retail GmbH has no property. The Görtz brand rights are also not in the assets of the Görtz Retail GmbH in the insolvency opening procedure.
