Russia has fulfilled its threat to block citizens from accessing Instagram. Washington Post according to Instagram was blocked in Russia on March 14th. Blocking Instagram means, according to Instagram director Adam Mosser, that 80 million Russian users will no longer have access to the service.
Roskomnadzor, Russia’s regulator and censorship engine, cited Facebook’s parent company Meta as the reason for the ban decision to allow Ukrainian users make upgrades demanding the death of the president To Vladimir Putin as well as soldiers infiltrating Ukraine.
Meta has changed its guidelines for related publications. Reuters according to an internal message it has received, the company is set to narrow its political focus. The company also denies Putin’s death wishes.
It is uncertain whether Russians will be able to access Instagram via VPN services. Major Russian somepersons have accompanied their followers to join Telegram’s discussion groups, as the service still operates in Russia.
Russia has already blocked citizens’ access to Facebook and Twitter, among other places. Attempts are made to censor all information coming from outside the country with the toughest possible hand. It has been speculated that the country’s administration will pay someperson to distribute pro-Russian content.
